Bell in the steeple
The bell in the university steeple is used to indicate class times. The method and mechanics to ring the bell have changed over the years. Originally, a rope attached to the wheel on the right and reaching to one of the accessible floors below was operated by hand. The hammer in the foreground was later used and was attached by cable to a motor at a lower level in the steeple. The bell is currently rung by the solenoid driven hammer on the left.
